"Recently In Print"
A couple of weeks ago I was asked what books and magazines I've helped with in some way, so here are some of the recent publications that I've added information to, helped with the research on, or provided photos for in the past couple of months:
We Remember... the stories of courage and heroism, triumph and tragedy, from the men and women who served their country in World War II from the Antelope Valley, California, by Dayle DeBry, is now available from Heritage Books. I supplied photos and information on the section dedicated to Maj. R.C. Franklin, Jr., the former C.O. of the 79th Fighter Squadron. All I've seen of this book are a few galley pages, but it appears to be very well done!
When The Soldiers Came To Town, which I supplied photos and information for, is now available through The Hub City Writers Project. I have a copy of this book and there are a few pages about the 77th Fighter Squadron that were written by my buddy and aviation archeologist Roger Wilkie. I can highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the military history of the Spartanburg, South Carolina area.
Rumor also has it that Roger has enough remaining material for an additional book, so keep your fingers crossed!
Move Unearth's Momentos of Law School's World War II Heroes, an article concerning the death of 20th Fighter Group pilot Lt. Joseph Minton and several other Baylor alumni, features information culled from numerous e-mails and the "Fightin' 79th In World War II". It appeared in the Winter 2004-2005 issue of Docket Call, the official magazine of the Baylor University School of Law.
I also supplied several photos of Maj. Ed Steiner to the 20th Fighter Wing, enlarged versions of which now hang in the lobby of the new Intelligence building at Shaw AFB - which is named in his honor. One of the photos also appeared (uncredited, I might add) on the front page of the December 17, 2004 issue of the base newspaper Shaw Spirit.
Links to where you can purchase the books listed above can be found on the website's "LINKS" page.
