"The Fightin' 79th" CD-ROM Updates
An amazing week, I received a great couple of video tapes from Tommy Colones and spent two days watching some really rare shows about the 8th Air Force from as far back as 1984. I also managed to link Tom and my good buddy Roger Wilkie up, since they are both from the Spartanburg, SC area so I am sure Tom will eventually be tagging along on one of Roger's digs.
Speaking of Roger, I'd like to congratulate him on making the front page of the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. They did an excellent article on the excavation of a crashed A-20 he is helping with and the work he is doing to help remember those men lost in training accidents during the war.
One sad point during the week was watching former 20th FG ace Harley Brown's A-2 jacket be auctioned off on E-Bay. I was amazed at the final price (over $1600!) but later found out that the buyer is a friend of Greg Smith, who recently submitted a photo of Maj. Jack Price for inclusion on the CD. Greg assured me that the jacket is now in good hands and the seller has graciously allowed me to use the photos he took for the auction, so there was some good that came out of it all.
I've been editing and transcribing the interview with Cliff Kies and continuing to edit the wartime films I have gotten and I estimate it'll be mid-week before I can turn my attention towards anything else related to the CD or the permanent site. Have a little patience, we're all a bit overwhelmed at the moment...
Don't forget, we're taking reserve orders now, just e-mail us for more information!
