  "The Fightin' 79th" CD-ROM Updates

It is amazing the little turns and twists fate can take a person down. While rewriting a few of the officer profiles for the CD I received a message from a woman named Toni Pardoe Ellsworth, who just happens to be the daughter of Lt. Thomas Pardoe, one of the officers who I had not been able to uncover very much information on. In fact, I was not the only one who knew very little about Lt. Pardoe's fate as even 20th Fighter Group historians and fellow members of the Fightin' 79th had no clue of what ever happened to him. Some thought he died during the war after being transfered to another unit.

Mrs. Ellsworth has informed me that her father survived the war and lived a full life, finally passing away in 2001 with his family at his side. Even more amazing was the fact that he was an artist of some renown whose works hangs in collections all over the country. Two of his paintings are about to be hung in the new Cabela's Outdoor Outfitters store in Utah and photos of those works will be included in the CD.

Speaking of photos, Mrs. Ellsworth has promised to scan and submit all of the photos from her father's collection and will scan all of the remaining leters he wrote home for any useable information.

So, there you have it, in one quirk of fate another life story is preserved. If only they were all that easy...

I also heard from Mark VanSickle, the nephew of Frank and Dick VanSickle, brothers who flew with the 77th Fighter Squadron, and he is sending me some of the microfilmed records of the 20th Fighter Group. I am hoping that I will be able to use a microfilm reader at the local library and can get through everything in a fairly timely manner.

With all of this new incoming material there is a chance that the release date may be set back. I haven't done this yet as I am hoping that we can handle everything and get it all included but I will step back before things get spread out too thin and the quality of the work starts to suffer.

Don't forget, we're taking reserve orders now, just e-mail us for more information!
