  "The Fightin' 79th" CD-ROM Updates

It's been a busy couple of days adding in all of the new material. I have gone ahead and created a new section on the 79th Pursuit Squadron using much of the material that Pete Peterson sent in. It includes a roster of all the enlisted personnel from around 1941. Included on that roster are at least eight men who remained with the squadron, went to King's Cliffe with the Fightin' 79th in 1943 and remained there through the end of the war in Europe. I also took the chance to add one more page to the enlisted photo album as I had several candid color photos that I had yet to resize.

Michelle Owings-Christian, a long-time friend of mine, has agreed to edit the text portions of the CD provided her schedule will allow it. I have been hesitant to turn the CD over to anyone, especially after hearing some of the nightmare encounters one author I know had with an editor, but I asked Michelle to do this as I feel I can trust her judgement. I am hoping her schedule will have an opening about the time I let the beta test version out.

Finally I can't post this today without making mention of the 61st Anniversary of D-Day, perhaps the most important date in modern history. I have read numerous "what-if" scenarios written by far more learned historians than I and the consequences of the failure of the Allied forces during Operation Overlord would have reached so far beyond the obvious that the world as we know it today might not have ever come to be.

So, I again ask you just to take a minute or two out of your busy day and think about the sacrifices made by so many Allied veterans and, if you get the chance, thank one of them for everything they have done in your behalf.

Also, take a moment to read up on, and become familiar with, what happened 61 years ago today and see for yourself how the fate of the world teetered precariously on what transpired on that one day... I don't think you will ever take your freedoms for granted again.

Don't forget, we're taking reserve orders now, just e-mail us for more information!
