  "The Fightin' 79th" CD-ROM Updates

Another fruitful few days have passed. I received a package of newspaper clippings from Diana Bradlow, the daughter of Joseph Gubana and she also took the time to forward some of our correspondence to other relatives. I received an e-mail from Gubana's niece and grand-niece, Wendy & Rachel Stewart and they have offered not only some photos and more clippings but an actual recording that he had made while in Germany directly after the end of the war in Europe. Needless to say I am thrilled to no end and am anxious to receive all of these submissions as they will add so much to the CD.

I would also like to mention that Mrs. Bradlow hurt her hand while trying to locate some other materials in her garage and we would like to wish her a speedy recovery.

Earlier tonight I received a phone call from James Mulligan, the former crew chief for Fred Hartig, William Harper, George Merriman, Wesley Taylor and Donald Sass. We spoke for nearly 45 minutes and I learned alot of new things about all of the men whose planes he was in charge of. He informed me that Harper had been a member of the AVG prior to joining the Fightin' 79th. and I am already trying to follow that up. Mulligan also promised to send some photos and other information.

Mr. Mulligan also told me how he was told that the nose art from Capt. Sass' P-51 "Sneebo" had been removed and sent to the USAF Museum so I will be looking further into that as well.

Sadly I have also learned of the passing of Col. David Ballou, who had flown with the 79th late in the war. I only knew Col. Ballou through our correspondence but he was a big supporter of this project and spent a great amount of time and effort to get me a CD full of photos to include. When his package with the CD arrived I was surprised to discover he had also made me some address lables that featured a photo of a 79th P-51 and had included them. I thought that was an awful nice touch. He will be missed. To view Col. Ballou's biography see: Here

Don't forget, we're taking reserve orders now, just e-mail us for more information!
