  "The Fightin' 79th" CD-ROM Updates

Another busy week is behind us and I couldn't be more enthused about how things are going. First of all I have set up a deal with the owner of a huge collection of 20th Fighter Group related images and, hopefully, it will all come through in time for the CD to go to the manufacturer (keep your fingers crossed, folks, this could be HUGE!)

I have also been contacting several researchers and that has also paid off handsomely - a huge thank you to Mike Wright for the graves registration information; next thank you to Karen Ramos at the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library for the information on Raymond Huarte; special thanks to Lynn Gammon at the U.S. Air Force Historical Research Agency for the prompt response on my query; kudos to Shawn Dorsch and Charlie Wagner at The Carolinas Aviation Museum for helping me find information on William Rierson; thanks to Dan Haacker of the Milton Public Library for the help locating info on Leonard Wright; thanks again to Andrew Donnellan and Ed Sharpe, (the latter of The Southwest Museum of Engineering Communication and Computation) for the information on Edward Crutchley, thanks to Andy from the armyairforces.com forum for tracking down the info on Robert Wells...God, I feel like I am forgetting people here and if so, please be sure to drop me a line to kick my memory back in gear!

The first few pages were sent to Michelle Owings-Christian for editing so we can test the waters and see how well the process will go. I am hoping to hear back from her by the end of this week and, if things go well, I will send her several more.

I took the CD over to Mark Bailey's on Thursday for some further early beta testing and we encountered problems with the new Microsoft Pop-Up Stopper, which would not allow the java scripts and audio/video content to work. I believe it is something to do with the Active X setting on his machine and we're looking deeper into this so we can isolate the problem. Hopefully it will be an easy fix.

Tom and Jessica Judge have the video footage that was sent to me by Mark Skinner, the son of Kenneth Skinner. Hopefully they will be able to recover and convert the video as thus far I have been unable to get it to play on any computer or DVD player I have attempted to play it on. This footage is sure to be amazing and will make a great inclusion if we can get it into a format I can work with. Once again, please cross those fingers for us!

On a personal note, Nancy and I are anxious for the start of the new season of The History Detectives, on PBS. If you haven't seen this show before and you are into history and research, you are missing out. Check out their updated website here. This show was one of the main inspirations that led me to do this project.

Don't forget, we're taking reserve orders now, just e-mail us for more information!
