"The Fightin' 79th" CD-ROM Updates
All work and no play makes Syd miss alot of sleep...
I finished going through and cleaning up the coding and checking the spelling on all 500+ pages so that's one last big item checked off the list. In the meantime I received an obituary for Markrel Byrd from the Waco-McLennan County Library so his profile is now completed. I have also added the autobiography of Thomas Pardoe, which I received from his daughter Toni Pardoe Ellsworth on Monday. The latter will no doubt raise a few eyebrows as he didn't pull a single punch. I also managed to locate some newsreel footage of the bond drive that Richard Gatterdam was part of after he completed his second tour.
While searching for images on the Library of Congress website I found an interesting set of photos taken in 1943 of the neighborhood I currently reside in. This subdivision was constructed to house the influx of new workers for the local munitions factory during the war. The Office of War Information evidently sent out several photographers to chronicle the growth and change during the war and one stopped here during the summer of 1943. He took numerous shots of a recently completed home and it is a mirror image to the one Nancy, Cait and I currently live in. In fact, thanks to these photos I have discovered many of the house's original features remain intact in our home. If you'd like to take a gander Click Here. I know, I know, it's not Fightin' 79th related but I thought it was kind of cool to see the area where I live as it was 62 years ago.
It looks as though Beta Testing will start right on time and, barring any major problems being encountered, I should be wrapping everything up by mid-October so we can make the release date. Again, stay tuned as there will be alot of forthcoming news!
Don't forget, we're taking reserve orders now, just e-mail us for more information!
