"The Fightin' 79th" CD-ROM Updates
I hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day vacation. Here in West Virginia we're already starting to get occasional whiffs of Autumn in the air and I am glad to see an end to the oppressive heat and humidity. Thankfully the workers have completed installing the vinyl siding so my days are alot less noisy and sleepless. I can not believe it took them over two weeks to do this small home!
I am still dumbfounded by the scenes of devastation in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida and I hope that all of you are doing whatever you can to help alleviate all of the suffering, even if it's just remembering them in your thoughts and prayers every night.
Everything is still on schedule and I will be sending out the beta copies for testing on September 12th. I would like to thank the folks who have agreed to do the testing - Larry Roush, Troy Wise, Tait Aune, Cody Knapp, Martin Blackman, John Foreman and Bill Holcomb.
Tait is also hard at work editing the text portions of the CD. I have been very happy with the job he has done so far and again I can not thank him enough for all of his help and support. I may also be adding a second editor by the end of the week but, at this point, this hasn't been finalized.
I heard from Edward Crutchley and Toni Pardoe Ellsworth and both have promised additional photographs for possible inclusion.Mrs. Patty Starkey has gracious allowed us the use of a tribute she wrote to David Ballou. David Knight has also granted permission for us to use some of the outstanding articles he has written about the 20th Fighter Group. Lance Armstrong has also submitted more wonderful photos and scans relating to his father John L. Armstrong and his profile and virtual gallery are now completed. While I am asking that everyone get the materials they would like included to me by September 9th but, knowing how things usually go in my life, odds are I will be adding material right up to the minute before the master CD's go to the manufacturer, LOL!!
By the first week of October I will be getting everything setup for you to be able to order the CD directly from the website. When this is all ready to go I will also be announcing both the expected release date and a special announcement concerning a related side-project.
With the release of the CD just a matter of weeks away I have been considering what my next project(s) might be. About a month ago I did a little preliminary research on three different military units and last week I narrowed the list down to two that have not yet received the coverage that they should. I will be making an announcement on this sometime before the Fightin' 79th CD is released.
Stay tuned folks, a lot will be happening in a short amount of time! Meanwhile, head over to the Sample Pages and check out the Profile and Virtual Gallery of David Ballou!
Don't forget, we're taking reserve orders now, just e-mail us for more information!
