And Onward Into The Fray...
Yes, Yes, I know how long it's been since I last posted, so please stop reminding me! LOL!!!
There's much to catch up on, so let's just jump right in... With my first semester of college and the holidays now in the past I'm all geared up for the new semester and more work on the project. I would like to thank everyone who has submitted new material in the past year, but there are a handful who must be singled out for going well beyond the call, Tom Skinner, Lance Armstrong and Dwight Cumming top that list. Each of these men have added more to the project than anyone will ever know and I would like to personally thank them all.
Speaking of Tom Skinner, I had the chance to finally talk with him a little while back and what a great conversation we had! He told me some great stories about his grandfather that I plan to add to his profile in the very near future.
The enhanced version of the CD is still growing at an amazing rate. At last count the number of pages had increased to over 630 and I would estimate there have been at least 150 new images added. Probably 2/3rds of the profiles have been updated or have had Virtual Galleries added to them. Two new sections have been added, the first contains a monthly synopsis of every mission flown by the Fightin' 79th; these entries come directly from the official squadron history. The second section deals with the gear that pilots used (clothing and equipment, etc.)
Tami Ramsey has graciously submitted some excellent new photographs of Maj. R.C. Franklin from her collection and now his virtual gallery is complete. It is amazing to see how much material is still out there and I hope to include as much as possible.
I spent the better part of the holidays redoing my office/studio. I would like to thank Jeremy Martin and Kevin Lee for their help on that monumental endeavor. A special thanks also goes out to Cody Knapp, who networked the computers throughout the house and now I can work on the CD from anywhere I wish. I also recently acquired a four-channel mixing board which will help me in future audio conversion and the likes.
Speaking of audio, Prof. Larry Roush has promised me several new classical guitar pieces for the CD and I can't wait to hear what he's got in store for us!
School has been, for the most part, great. I have to say a large part of the credit for my enjoyment goes to two of my professors, Mr. Jan Haddox and Mr. David Owens. Both of these men made things challenging enough to be interesting. This semester looks as though it will be a much of a challenge and I am happy to say I have Professor Owens again!
At this point my research time is limited so I can't predict a release date for the Enhanced Version of the CD. I am hoping to have it ready to go by this summer but I won't let anyone hold me to that, there is simply too many variables that could happen between now and then. I have plans for new inclusions that I sincerely hope to see come to fruition but if they don't I am not going to view this work with any less pride.
One thing is for sure, as soon as the master CD leaves my hands to be manufactured this project will be at an end. What my next project might be, I really can't say. The Conspicuous Gallantry project has been shelved, however, and probably won't be revived anytime soon. I have a few ideas but, at this point, my main priority is getting my degree so I doubt I will be starting anything new until I have that sheepskin in hand.
I hope everyone's year is shaping up nicely!
